Verse of The Day

“Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

e-News

September 1, 2010

Greetings from Legacy:
September 7, 2010...it is coming fast.    We are ready and waiting with great anticipation for opening day. Our entire faculty and staff is hired and in place.  We have had several very productive teacher workshop days where we have studied curriculum design and continued to train faculty on technology infusion. Since our last e-news we have completed our hiring and have the final two new faculty members to introduce.

Kristi Person is our new elementary computer teacher and will also be taking on additional responsibilities to support our new one-to-one lap top program.  With the infusion of technology into all aspects of our school, this kind of support will be very valuable.  Ms. Pearson is a graduate of Bethel and has her masters from the University of Minnesota.

Mary Ford is our new FACS (family and consumer science) teacher as well as our yearbook advisor. Mary was the last faculty hire of the summer, so we had a great celebration when she signed her contract. Mary has experience in the classroom in several schools.  She is a graduate of University of Wisconsin, Stout.

Our entire faculty and staff along with the Meadow Creek Church staff met on Tuesday morning for a worship and communion service.  The theme of our worship was Joy...the joy we find in doing God's work, in being together as a community, and the joy of anticipation of where God is leading us as Legacy Christian Academy.  My prayer is that you and your family will have a joy filled year as we together "Create a Legacy".

I Hope to see many of you at our open house tomorrow afternoon and evening.

God Bless,

Dean Erickson
President-Legacy Christian Academy

Hello to all:

We have just completed teacher workshops.  I am so affirmed by the excellent teaching staff we have.  We spent time learning about Googledocs (suite of online applications) and Moodle (class/course management system) which will expand our online application capabilities.  We went to the Minnesota Department of Education website and located the state standards.   Our LCA goal is to not only meet state standards but also to exceed them. We also spent time talking about schedules, policies, and discussing the Power of Words after reading a thought-provoking article.  There was an awesome time reflecting on the importance of words, specific praise, and the opportunity we all have to be light to our students.  In the first week of school all elementary teachers will talk with students about bullying behavior and put-downs. Our teachers shared ideas about how to present information help students understand the seriousness of bullying. I encourage all families to spend time talking about mutual respect and the importance of embracing differences in each other.  Talk to your child about how God made each one of us unique; with special gifts, talents, traits, and challenges.  When we have this framework, we are less likely to treat others poorly.  This year we will be implementing P.E.A.R.L.  (Positive Education Activities to Reinforce Learning) a program designed to support and shape successful students.  The idea behind pearl is that just as sand is crafted into a beautiful pearl over time, our children too benefit from time, smoothing, and shaping.  In place of detention a student who has had difficulty following rules, completing work, or treating others with respect would be referred for PEARL class.  These classes will be a time for positively teaching virtues and expectations.  Teachers will notify parents when a child receives a PEARL referral. Watch for more information as this program moves forward.  Please give your child encouragement in their transition back to school. Let them know that we care about each of them and that we are here to help them achieve.  We are eager to get to know them personally and to share an exciting new learning journey.

Blessed to be here,
Diane Lemke - Elementary Principal

ELEMENTARY NEWS:

I am thrilled to be a part of the Legacy Christian Academy Team!  I'm looking forward to getting to know all of the students and families.  I see the vision of an exciting and inspiring movement into the future.  I am grateful for the dedication and hard work that has come before me and I am honored to join this administration team and staff.  My long history in education has been in public schools but the opportunity to work and live out my faith is what called me to this position.  I can't wait to get into the classrooms and get to know your children. Thank you in advance for your encouragement and support.  I look forward to meeting you at Open House or in the days ahead.

I am currently working on updating our 2010- 2011 school guide.  When completed it will be available to you on our school website. We have some exciting plans for our new year.  This year we will not have you register for conferences during our Open House.  You will be able to register on-line as our secondary parents did last year.  We are also going to embrace our new technology and provide your child(ren) more opportunities to learn with exciting resources.  We are going to promote teacher collaboration and professional teaming to enhance instruction.  In our 5th and 6th grade classes, students will receive instruction from both teachers maximizing teacher preparation time and allowing for greater depth in the content areas.  You will receive more information about this soon. We are ready for a wonderful learning year!

Blessings!

August 25, 2010

Greetings from Legacy:
Last night was a beautiful evening.  I had the privilege of spending part of it with praying supporters of Legacy on our new property in Ramsey.  We sat in the middle of the acreage and were overwhelmed with its beauty and grandeur as we prayed for the school, our parents, our students, our teachers and administrators, and that as we move forward with this exciting building project that we keep focused on our Christ centered mission to create a school of excellence.  We have much to be thankful for at Legacy as we move into the 2010-2011 school year.

The good news keeps coming. Now that the land is purchased and the architect plans are beginning to be developed, we have set a realistic goal of being in a new building the fall of 2012.  With this goal in mind, we had one more possible hurdle...we only had a lease with Meadow Creek Church for the 2010-2011 school year. Where would we be for the 2011-2012 school year? The Meadow Creek Church Deacon Board met last week and unanimously voted to extend the Legacy Christian Academy lease for the 2011-2012.  Here is an excerpt from the board's email:

"The reason to do so now rather than later was to help the school in retaining and enrolling students whose parents were concerned that there would be an interruption in their students' lives should no extension be available.  The Pastor and Deacon Board are very satisfied with the current relationship we enjoy with Legacy at this time and want to use this opportunity to demonstrate our continued commitment and support for the school.  As with the last extension, we need to add the proviso that dirt needs to begin moving next Spring 2011."

Since we are moving forward with our building plans, dirt will be moving next spring....  We will not be homeless for the 2011-2012 school year!!  We thank God and the Meadow Creek Church for this positive news.  We look forward to a continued great working relationship with the Church for the next two school years.

There are more excellent new faculty members to introduce to the community. The following are the additions we have made since last weeks e-news:

Amanda Roff will be our new secondary mathematics teacher.  Amanda taught math last year in the Frazee High School in Frazee, Minnesota.  She and her husband are moving to the Twin Cities where he has also accepted a teaching position. Her former principal said to me, "you are getting a great math teacher".  We are very pleased that Amanda is joining our secondary math department.  Amanda is a graduate of Bemidji State University.

Kristi Person has been hired as our new technology teacher.  She will be teaching computer keyboarding and other computer skills in the elementary program as well as assisting us as tech support as we roll out our new one to one laptop program later this fall.  Kristi received her BA degree from Bethel and her masters and licensure work from the University of Minnesota.

Chad Ronayne is our new 5th grade teacher.  Chad is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, River Falls where he was an Elementary Education and Spanish major as well as being very involved in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Chad has been working at the Marie Sandvik Center as an inner city Kid's Club teacher as well as substitute teaching in Burnsville and Bloomington schools.  He brings a strong background of technology and drama into his 5th grade classroom.

Below, please find information regarding our back to school open house celebration.  Details include times for the elementary open house, the secondary orientation for new students, and information on our school wide celebration on September 2nd.  Looking forward to seeing all of you there!

From the Desk of Joleen Kubiszewski - 6th Grade Teacher:
Are You All In?

As we prepare for Open House on Thursday, September 2, our hearts are filled with glad anticipation for the coming school year.  It is a delight to see the students and their parents as excited as we are to begin another season of learning about the Lord and the wonderful world He has created.  They can join Brett Favre in saying, "I'm all in!"  It is with confidence that I can assure you that as a staff we are all in also in learning new technology to best suit our learners' needs.  Our administration has been working diligently to make everything suitable for Legacy Christian Academy to run smoothly this year and with the Lord's guidance, work faithfully on long range planning of our new facility.  Our Foundation of Hope is without a doubt all in, as evidenced in their dedication to serving the Lord with a firm spiritual foundation.  Their commitment is in striving towards the highest standards in academics while continuing our focus on godly character building of each precious child from preschool through high school.  We are all in and so grateful for the year we have ahead.  Our Lord is going before us to make the way straight.  May all of us have this vision as Scripture encourages us to, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight."  Psalm 3:5-6

GREETINGS FROM LEGACY:
We have good news to report again this week!  This has been a great summer at Legacy.  Last Friday, we had the initial public meeting where we shared a vision of our new school building on our new property in Ramsey.  We are moving forward carefully but quickly to make this new facility a reality.  More will be shared about these exciting plans at our Open house on September 2.

The news I am especially excited to report is that we have hired more truly outstanding educators to join our Legacy family this fall.  These new faces together with the new faculty already introduced in previous e-news letters, join our returning faculty to make up our almost completed faculty and staff roster for this fall.  We are still in the interview process for our open 5th grade position, our tech support position, and two secondary faculty positions.  We have been blessed with an abundance of talented applicants for all our open positions. Please keep praying that God provides the people who will enhance our school's mission.

First, I am extremely pleased to announce that we have hired a new elementary principal/curriculum director.  Diane Lemke has accepted the position and will officially begin next Monday, August 23. Diane has an impressive teaching and leadership background and great experience in the areas of curriculum writing and design.  She has her B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota and her Masters and licensure work from Saint Mary's University. We are overjoyed that Diane is joining our leadership team.

Jill Coolbroth will be our new all-day kindergarten teacher. Jill taught kindergarten and first grade in the Robbinsdale school district for several years before taking a few years off to be home with her young children. The last few years she has been substituting in a variety of elementary classrooms at Meadow Creek.  Her two daughters now attend a great school, Legacy Christian Academy, and she is ready to return to the full time teacher ranks.  We are very happy that she made that decision and are delighted that she will be our kindergarten teacher. Jill is a graduate of the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul.

Megan Tholl is our new first grade teacher.  She taught first grade last year at John A. Johnson School in Saint Paul. She has also worked as a summer parks and recreation instructor and as a Jr. High girls basketball and volleyball coach. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, and did her licensure work at Saint Catherine University in St. Paul.

Our new second grade teacher is also a Megan, Megan Jones. She is a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead.  Although she is a brand new teacher, Megan brings a wealth of experience working with a variety of youth programs and service organizations. Megan is also a volleyball player and will be serving as an assistant volleyball coach at Legacy this fall.

Our new fourth grade teacher is not a new face at Legacy.  Susan McLaughlin has substitute taught at Meadow Creek for several years and has two children in the secondary school at Legacy.  Susan has teaching experience in Minnesota and in Arizona.  She is a graduate of Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah and is currently working on her ESL endorsement as well as her masters in curriculum design and technology.

This is a great time to be hiring new teachers.  There is an abundance of qualified and gifted teachers in the candidate pool. To rise to the top of that pool is an accomplishment. The people who we have hired have done that and will be bringing a wealth of talent and enthusiasm to Legacy.  All of them have a passion for Christian education and the ability to teach not just to the head but to the heart of children. We thank God for each of them and welcome them to our school.  Please keep all of these new hires in your prayers as they move in and begin the exciting task of Christian education at Legacy Christian Academy.

Next week please look for an e-news flash announcing all of the back to school information for your students.

FROM THE DESK OF:
Jake Mulvihill - Legacy's American History and Bible Teacher

God calls Christians to a life of faith day in and day out. Being a part of the Legacy family is no exception to the faith journey. You believe in your heart that God is working at the school. You hear all sorts of reports that God is doing great things right now at Legacy and in preparing the way for the future of His school. It takes faith to trust the leaders, the advisory board, the faculty and staff, and ultimately that God's sovereign will is happening at Legacy.  Once in a while God gives us glimpses of His workings and of the hearts of our leaders to give us hope and a reason to continue having faith. Last week was one of those moments for me.

I was blessed to be a part of the architectural design group that met to dream about what the future school will look like architecturally, but more importantly what the stones and blocks will accomplish for students, the community, and God. It was a refreshing time to hear the Legacy board of directors, administration, and other leaders share their dreams and vision for this future school. They are big. They are student-centered. They are family oriented. They are adaptable to meet the demands of our ever-changing culture. But most importantly, they are Christ-centered and biblically based with a desire to make sure God is glorified. It was very encouraging to get a glimpse into the hearts of our leaders and hear many God stories of how God is and has worked "coincidently" in a miraculous way on behalf of the school. The meeting brought to mind Revelation 3:8 which states, "See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut."

God is opening doors for this school and the reason Legacy is where it is, is because God is working behind the scenes on behalf of this school. My spirit was encouraged immensely through these meetings from hearing God stories, the hearts of our leaders, and what the future of Legacy, God-willing, will look like. Please join us on September 2 for our Open House to have your heart and faith encouraged as you hear reports of how God has worked on behalf of the school and exciting news regarding Legacy and its future.

Please continue to pray for Legacy and it leaders. They are trying to seek God's will and walk through the doors that God is opening.

With an encouraged heart,
Jake Mulvihill

EXCITING NEWS FROM THE MATH DEPARTMENT!
Dust off your calculator and grab a handful of pencils...this year, LCA will be starting both middle school and high school math teams!

Our 7th and 8th graders will participate in the Minnesota Junior High Math League.  Over the course of the school year, students will compete in individual and team events in five different meets.  Our 9th through 12th graders will participate in the Minnesota State High School Mathematics League, which also has five meets comprised of individual and team events.  Students in the high school league may also earn the opportunity to participate in the state tournament in March 2011.

Some questions you may have...

Do I have to have straight A's in math to be on math team?

NO, straight A's are not necessary!  If you enjoy math, you are welcome to be a part of the team!
Do I have to give up my other after school activities?

NO!  A flexible practice schedule, with some morning practice options, will be in place soon after school begins to accommodate students who are involved in other school activities.
Are there "try-outs"?  Will some students not "make the team"?

There are no try-outs for math team and no cuts!  Anyone who wants to be on the team only needs to commit to a minimum amount of practice time each week (specifics will be determined later).
Who do I contact if I want more information?

If you have questions or concerns or simply want to say "sign me up!", please contact Mrs. Christian by email at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  There will also be an after school informational meeting soon after school begins, stay tuned for the date and time.

UPDATE FROM LEGACY:
Wednesday was the first day of our summer technology training for faculty.  Two consultants from the educational resource company, Educational Collaborators, taught Wednesday's and today's sessions for 30 faculty members. We spent time looking at research and cultural trends which reinforce the importance of infusing technology into our classrooms. We also focused on web 2.0 tools and how to use them to enhance our curriculum. There is a lot to learn, but the enthusiasm level is high and collaborative spirit is alive and well among the faculty.

Please read the announcement from the advisory council below.  They are inviting all parents to attend a brief presentation of our Preliminary Conceptual Site Master Planning Sketches tomorrow afternoon.

There are a lot of good and exciting things that are happening at Legacy this summer. Obviously, the land purchase is top on that list but there are also new hires, new technologies, new courses and new students.  But you have already read what I think about Legacy and its bright future.  I have asked some of our faculty to share with you why they are excited about the future of Legacy. The next few e-news editions will feature these brief thoughts from faculty. Please read the following submitted by Cheryl Fregeau, phy-ed and health teacher.

God Bless,

Dean Erickson
President-Legacy Christian Academy

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." These verses, Jeremiah 29:11-13, are favorites of mine because they remind me that God sees my future and He is worthy of my trust. This is true of the future of Legacy Christian Academy.

I believe God has held MCCS in His hands for over thirty years and has opened and closed doors to fit His divine plan. A few years ago I joined the staff and school families to walk and pray over the land on Tulip, our future school home. I see now, that in His sovereignty and timing God had a different and perhaps bigger plan for Legacy. I view the closed doors and frustration over failed attempts to build then and there as God's protection.

Several students at Legacy are doing what verses 12-13 encourages them to do. They are corporately seeking God in prayer on a weekly basis. As a teacher I feel blessed to pray with them and experience their enthusiasm in seeking God's faithfulness in bringing His plan for Legacy Christian Academy to fruition.

Cheryl Fregeau

Hello Legacy Christian Parents and Friends:
On behalf of Legacy Christian Academy Building/ Design Committee Leadership, we invite you to a brief presentation at Greenhaven Golf Course in Anoka, MN on Friday, August 13 at 3:00 p.m. Committee members will present Preliminary Conceptual Site Master Planning Sketches that have been generated in a two day Design Workshop facilitated by the architectural team of the Cuningham Group. These sketches represent the very first look at the future of LCA located at the proposed property on Highway 10 and Armstrong Street in Ramsey, MN. Please know that this session is a snapshot of the initial thoughts behind the planning, and that additional details will be reviewed at the September 2nd Open House from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Legacy.
There will be members of the Committee, Advisory Council, and Faculty present to answer questions and fill you in on the process that has been underway since professional selection on July 29.

We understand this is very short notice, but we are moving quickly and want to share our thoughts and ideas as we begin this exciting process of designing and building a new home for Legacy Christian Academy.
Enthusiastically yours,
LCA Advisory Council

Good Afternoon:
We are excited to share with you today the next chapter in how our wonderful God is opening doors to Legacy Christian Academy's journey toward excellence.  We are so grateful to our God and thankful for the steadfast prayers that have been supporting the efforts of this past year.  In these pivotal times for our school, please join us in continued prayer for our patience and ability to hear His call.

This past January, a broad team of parents, faculty, and real estate professionals began to review site alternatives for a new facility for our school. The guiding principles for their work were the following:

  • The new location should be within a 10-mile radius from current site and north of Mississippi River.
  • Ensure the site has appropriate "buildable" space to fit a school of excellence, providing the full slate of curricular/co-curricular offerings.
  • Ensure the site is located in a demographically favorable area (Is there growth potential?  Do the households have significant children population?).
  • Ensure ease of access to/from major corridors.
The committee spent time reading the book "Quest for Excellence" and used its Chapter 18 to establish its baseline for what type of acreage would be needed. An architectural firm was secured to assist the committee to ensure that each identified piece of land could "fit" a school of excellence.  The broader committee, working with the real estate firm the Frauenshuh Group, identified 15 potential sites.  After placing these sites against the guiding principles for selection and then touring various sites reduced the list to five.  The remaining sites we further investigated for fit and price and then our real estate representative sat with the various cities where the land was held (slides from the May Parent Presentation PDF can be found on the website showing more details around the process).
Further refinement of the list of properties surfaced a clear leader.  Earlier this summer, negotiations began and we are thrilled to share with you that last week a purchase agreement was signed to purchase 186 acres of property in Ramsey. The property is located to the northwest of the intersection of Armstrong Blvd. NW and Bunker Lake Blvd. in Ramsey (an aerial view of the site PDF can be found on the website). Upon completion of this purchase, around Thanksgiving, we will look to place the property on Tulip for sale.  It is also worth noting that the piece of land in Ramsey will actually be purchased by the Hageman Foundation.   The Foundation will be working with the school to arrange the best ownership transition of the Ramsey land in order to benefit the school financially.  The gift of the portion of land needed for the school, combined with the ability to sell Tulip will greatly cushion the school from this transaction impacting the current, delicate cash flow of the general budget.
So, where do we go from here?  In order to ensure a new school "works" on that site for the City of Ramsey, we move very quickly into a 120 day due diligence process.  We are beginning the "pre-design" phase for our new facility.  We have secured the services of The Cuningham Group as our architect for this work. They will be meeting with a committee next week to establish a "sketch" for a school on the Ramsey Site.  The committee will include parents, faculty and staff of Legacy and other key advisors we have secured to help us with this process.   These professionals, as well as other building professionals, will move us quickly through a process of setting a foundation for our next school.  Later this month and through the fall, we will be reaching out to all of you for feedback and input as to what our new home will look like.  The current hopes are to launch a fundraising campaign this fall to garner the resources needed to move into our new Legacy Christian Academy in the Fall of 2012.
We also believe it is worth noting that we have been in full communication with Meadow Creek Church about our progress in regards to our new home for LCA. We believe the Church would agree that the relationship with them and the school is very strong.  We will continue to keep them abreast of the many steps we are taking and at the same time exploring our options. We pray God's hand will continue to unfold his plans for our school both short and long term, but must surrender to that being on His time.
These are without a doubt exciting times for us!  Please join us in praying to God with gratitude of heart for where we are today and for guidance to what we can all bring to His Kingdom!
Yours in Christ,

Legacy Christian Academy Advisory Council

July 28, 2010

Greetings from Legacy Christian Academy,

As we end the month of July, we continue to move forward with the exciting task of "building a Legacy," we have several very important and exciting announcements:

More outstanding faculty hired to join the Legacy Christian Academy teaching team!
Angela Nelson has accepted the position as part-time biology teacher at Legacy.  Mrs. Nelson is a Minnesota state certified science teacher with experience teaching at the high school level. She has her undergraduate degree in biology from Bethel University and her Masters from St. Mary's University. Mrs. Nelson is passionate about Science and is looking forward with great excitement to teaching our students biology from a Christian perspective.

Raquel Villafane will be our new Spanish instructor in grades 7-12.  Mrs. Villafane is a native speaking Spanish teacher who was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Mrs. Villafane graduated from the University of Puerto Rico and is a Minnesota  licensed teacher. Teaching at LCA will fulfill two of her passions - her love for the Lord and the joy of teaching Spanish.

We look forward to our LCA parent community getting to know these two outstanding faculty additions. Please pray for them as they join the Legacy community.

We continue to interview for several other open positions and will communicate more new faculty hires as soon as they are finalized.

The decision has been made......We will have two classes in each elementary grade level for the 2010-2011 school year!!

This is the decision that many elementary parents have been waiting for.  Our enrollment continues to grow, and with that growth comes the ability to have two classes for each elementary grade.  This spring we were looking at the possibility of having combined classes in some grades. God has blessed us with more students, and this has allowed us to move forward with this decision. For the few families that are still on the "pending" list, we ask that you make your decision to enroll your student so that final class lists can be created.

Legacy Christian Academy is committed to become a school of excellence.  This decision is another step in that direction.  We thank God that we are able to move forward with this great news.

And finally, we have contracted with a new food service for the 2010-2011 school year.  Taher, Inc. will be our new hot lunch provider.  We will be offering a nutritious and delicious hot lunch menu as well as a fresh fruit and salad bar option daily!  Stay tuned for more details and an opportunity for you to sample their delicious food!  We are thrilled with what this change will provide for our families!

God Bless,

Dean Erickson

e-News

July 21, 2010

News from Legacy Christian Academy:

Summer is good, but it certainly does go quickly.  As July winds down, the pace seems to quicken as we head toward the opening of the 2010-2011 school year.  The following is a brief update of happenings at Legacy since last week's e-News.

Hiring Update:
We have a new athletic director at Legacy Christian Academy.  J.P. Lindgren will begin as our new athletic director on July 26.   Mr. Lindgren will be teaching physical education part-time in the junior high as well as taking on the many responsibilities of the athletic director's office.  Mr. Lindgren is a graduate of St. Cloud State University and has been the head boys golf coach and assistant boys basketball coach at Meadow Creek Christian School.  Mr. Lindgren has a clear vision of what excellence in athletics means to Legacy and looks forward to serving God in his new position.  Please welcome J.P. Lindgren to this very important position at Legacy Christian Academy.

We are "getting close" to hiring a part-time biology teacher and a full-time Spanish teacher for secondary and will hopefully be able to announce these hires in our next e-News update.  We have also started interviewing for the 1st grade teaching position and the elementary principal/curriculum director position.

Technology Update:
Our first two faculty technology training institute days have been set for August 11 and 12.   All of the faculty will be taking an on-line assessment of technology skills to help us design these training institutes.  We are also beginning the process of updating our technology infrastructure to better support the addition of our student laptop program. After our last e-News update on technology, some of you asked questions about parent education for the one-to-one laptop program.  We will hold several parent evenings this fall to answer questions about the program, parent monitoring of home use of computers, software questions, and other issues connected with this exciting new technology infusion.

Secondary Student Schedules:
The secondary master schedule is complete and student schedules will be mailed by the end of this week.  The secondary master schedule will be available for viewing on our web site under the secondary tab, so if students are contemplating schedule changes, or if they have problems with their schedule, they can check on-line to see if the changes are logistically possible.  Class schedule changes can be made through the first week of each semester.  Contact Mrs. Budish at 763-427-4595 x205 or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to make changes.

Save the date - Building a Legacy Kickoff Celebration!
We want you to put the evening of Thursday, September 2 on your calendar.  We are planning a great family celebration to kick off the school year.   A family picnic will be part of the fun as well as the unveiling of our new mascot name and school colors.  More details of this event will be forthcoming, but please mark it on your calendar as a "must attend" event!

We will continue to keep you updated on news and events this summer as we countdown to opening day. Please continue to pray for Legacy Christian Academy and keep telling your friends about the exciting new things happening as we together "build a Legacy".

I hope you are finding time to enjoy the sunshine this summer.

God Bless,

Dean Erickson - President

LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

e-News

July 14, 2010

Greetings from Legacy Christian Academy:
This summer has been constructively busy as we begin "Building a Legacy". How do you build a legacy?  At our parent meetings last year we laid out a plan for a Christian school of excellence.  Various committees were formed to study and give input on a variety of topics that we felt were vital to our school's health and sustainability.  Now we must act on those plans. As they say, talk is cheap...action speaks louder than words.  This summer we are beginning to build Legacy in a variety of ways.  We will update you regularly on our progress throughout the summer.

Technology Update:
We are moving forward with our plan to more intentionally infuse technology into our curriculum. The most obvious infusion is our one-to-one program for 7th-12th graders; each student in those grades will have a school owned MacBook laptop.  We will be rolling that program out the beginning of November.  As a part of the program, we are providing enhanced technology training this summer for all of our faculty; not just the teachers involved in the laptop program.  We have set technology standards for all of our teachers and are providing training for them to meet those standards.  We will also provide more training for faculty on the use of our electronic white boards.  To be a school of excellence we must use technology as a tool to enhance learning.... and we are well on our way.

Hiring Update:
We have been busy interviewing candidates for several of our open positions.  I personally have been impressed by the quality of the candidates that have interviewed so far and look forward to announcing our new employees soon. The newly hired employees, together with those returning this fall, will be an exciting group to work with.

Marketing/Branding Update:
Are we the Saints? What are our colors?  I've been asked those questions many, many times this summer.  We have a marketing/branding committee that is working hard at looking at our school, our mission, our new name, and advising us on our logo, mascot, colors, web-site makeover, and even the fonts to use in our new letterhead.  Stay tuned...we will know the answers to these questions before the end of the summer.

Your prayers are vital as we move forward; please continue to pray for Legacy Christian Academy, for our new families, for our new employees, and for all of our work here as we begin to "Build a Legacy".  We greatly appreciate your prayers and support.

As always, please do not hesitate to call me if you have questions.

Greetings from Legacy Christian Academy:

Yes, schools are much quieter without the students; but work does go on in the summer, and this summer is a very busy one at Legacy. As was stated in the letter from the Advisory Council last week, we will continue to update you via email this summer on news from Legacy.

Please find in this email a list of major dates for the 2010-2011 school year.  These dates are now also on our web site under the CALENDAR tab. We will be updating the web site calendar on a regular basis as events are planned.

We are moving forward with great haste on the purchase of the land for our new school building. As was explained at our parent meeting in May, we cannot announce the site until the purchase agreement has been signed.  We are very confident that the purchase will go through and the site will be announced this summer.

Our 1 to 1 laptop initiative for grades 7-12 is also on schedule.  We have been busy planning the faculty-training program for this technology infusion.  If you have not read the article in the Anoka Union about our new technology program, please click on the following link and give it a read;   http://abcnewspapers.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12681&Itemid=26.
Thanks to all of you who answered our technology survey. This data will be very important as we roll out this program.

Please continue to keep our school in your prayers.  As we begin hiring this summer to fill open positions, we really need you to pray that God provides us with the people we need to carry on His work at Legacy Christian Academy.

God Bless,

Dean Erickson

"PRAY LEGACY"
All high school students are invited to be a part of something very exciting that's going to be taking place this summer. We're calling it "PRAY LEGACY!"
We are convinced that this is a part of something very significant that God is doing here at our school. Our theme verse for Pray Legacy comes from Jeremiah 33:2-3 which says, "Thus says the LORD who made the earth, the LORD who formed it to establish it, the LORD is his name: Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known." We believe God has amazing plans for Legacy Christian Academy. This summer we want to gather as many students as possible to seek God in prayer for the "great and hidden things" that God has in store for us! We'll be meeting every Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast and prayer on the beach at the Ruf's home at 13355 Heather St. NW in Andover.  All high school students should be receiving a postcard in the mail with the details, or for more information, send an email to:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Please consider being a part of "Pray Legacy" and let's see what God has in store!

LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

(formerly Meadow Creek Christian School)

Dear Parents and Friends of Legacy Christian Academy:

We have officially completed the 2009-10 school year and would like to thank you for your continued support, prayers and encouragement.  This year has been filled with tremendous progress in building a foundation for our continued pursuit of excellence.

Those who attended the May 17 public meeting heard updates from the Advisory Council on the ongoing planning process.  One part of the presentation outlined a plan to restructure the staff of Legacy Christian Academy to align with academic initiatives and enrollment levels.

There were three guiding principles that we prayerfully considered while making these decisions:
Alignment with Excellence
  • Teaching Licensure
  • Preparedness for 21st Century Learning Environment
  • Organizational Restructuring
Assessment of staff work load
  • Performance assessment
  • Budget/Enrollment
  • Class sizes (target average of 22/minimum number for secondary electives)
  • Address recent years enrollment decline
The task of making these staffing changes was difficult because it impacted many peoples' lives - teachers and staff who are amazing people. Over the years, these teachers and staff have sacrificed to serve the LCA community, and by their example, have impacted many lives. Their dedication, loyalty and commitment to Christ, education, and students have never been in question.

Our desire is to assist those impacted by this restructuring in the form of severance, recommendations, networking and prayer. These teachers and staff members are deeply appreciated for their years of service, friendships, and the way they used their unique talents and skills to influence young lives for the Kingdom of God. Therefore, we encourage you to reach out to them, let them know how much you appreciate them and are praying for them.

During these times of change, perceptions and misinformation is commonplace.  We hope this letter might help answer some of the questions we have heard over the past weeks.

Q - What Administration activities/responsibilities have been impacted by the restructuring?
A - In an attempt to become more cost effective, we have combined some administrative duties with teaching positions. Our athletic director will also have part time teaching responsibilities.

We have begun the process of establishing an advancement office, which will include development, admissions and public relations.  In the interim, we have assigned admissions duties to our summer office staff.

This summer we will also be hiring a new elementary principal who will have curriculum coordination responsibilities.

Our library operation is being restructured to include our new technology initiative.  We will be staffing the library for student use next fall.  A new educational technology director will be part of our new media center operation in the future.

Q - Does this restructuring necessitate the elimination of athletics and/or other extra-curricular activities?
A - We are committed to excellence in academics, the fine arts, and athletics. We are adding several clubs and other opportunities for our students to participate in during the next school year.  Our athletic offerings will stay the same for the 2010-2011 school year.  We are in the process of posting and filling any vacant coaching positions.  Our vision is to expand athletic offerings as our student body numbers increase.

Q - Will there be additional staff reductions this summer or did the school reach the planned staffing levels?
A - The number of teachers and staff we currently have, in addition to filling the posted opening are what we are planning to open the school with this fall.  The only potential change would be a slight increase if enrollment increases significantly.

Questions regarding staffing please contact Desiree Kuik (763-427-4295 ext. 203, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Q - Is Foreign Language being eliminated from the curriculum?
A - Foreign language is now a requirement for graduation at Legacy Christian Academy.  We are currently seeking applications for a Spanish instructor. Next year we will be forming a task force to explore adding an additional language to our curricular offerings as well as the addition of a foreign language component to our elementary curriculum.

Questions regarding courses/curriculum, please contact Dean Erickson (763-427-4595 ext. 253, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )

Q - What can I do to help move Legacy Christian Academy forward?
A - Great question.  First, keep praying for LCA.  We believe that prayer is carrying us in a great new direction.  Secondly, tell others about LCA.  Don't forget about the referral incentive program.  We can always use a few more quality students. You are our best sales and marketing.

If you have more questions that were not answered in this letter, please contact us for answers.  We are extremely confident that with God's help and your support LCA is on its way to excellence for Christ.  We will continue to update you throughout the summer, as more information is available.  That communication will be via email, so please be sure we have your email on record at the school.  To submit question, concerns or comments to the Advisory Council please log on to:  http://www.meadowcreek.com/index.php?option=com_dfcontact&Itemid=90

Yours in Christ,
The LCA Advisory Council
